Utah House Democrats to Host Town Halls on Tax Reform

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah House Democrats will hold a series of town halls to discuss tax reform over the coming weeks. A total of six town halls will be held in Salt Lake, Weber, and Utah Counties next month, with potentially more to be scheduled later.

After tax reform efforts stalled during the legislative session, and with future necessary reforms pending, Democrats want to make sure the public is heard. These public events will provide opportunities to discuss the state’s tax structural problem, and the many options the state has for reform.

“While we may need to address the structural imbalance of our state tax system, any reforms need to happen in a collaborative and public way,” said House Minority Leader, Representative Brian King. “Utahns want transparency, not policy made in closed caucus meetings. We look forward to collaboratively discussing the challenges and opportunities Utah has to improve our tax structure. We want to work with all stakeholders as we and our Republican colleagues proceed with legislative ideas.”

The House Democratic Leadership will hold a media availability to discuss these upcoming tax reform town halls tomorrow, Thursday, April 18, between 8 AM and 9 AM, or between 11 AM and 12 Noon, in the House Minority Offices at the Capitol, Suite 400.
