Legislature Recognizes Lunar New Year, Celebrates Growing Diversity

Salt Lake City - Utah’s first Chinese-American legislator, Representative Karen Kwan, passed legislation recognizing the Lunar New Year for the first time in state history.  HJR 5 recognizes the 15 day holiday as the most important holiday to many Asian cultures and  the growing number of  Utahns who do as well.

Representative Kwan said, “As Utah grows, so does its diversity. This bill recognizes my traditions, and the traditions of over 45,000 people in our state. Our difference in culture is what makes Utah a strong and vibrant place to live. I am grateful that the legislature has chosen to support my amazing cultural community.”
